Freewriting Exercise
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Freewriting requires a minimum of time and prep, and is perfect for those suffering from writer's block. It's a way to generate new short story (or poem ) ideas, and to go places with your creative writing you wouldn't go otherwise. At the very least it will get you to set pen to paper.
Difficulty: Easy Time Required: 10 minutes
Here's How:
Sit down at a desk with pen and paper, ideally in some quiet place, though freewriting can be done anywhere.
Decide beforehand that you will only be writing for ten minutes (longer if you'd like) and that you will not stop before that time is up. Set a timer or an alarm.
Write without stopping until the timer goes off. Do not lift your pen from the paper, even if this means writing, 'I don't know what to write,' over and over again. Write nonsense, write anything, but don't stop writing.
Share your freewriting here if you like and come back whenever stumped by writer's block. It'll be interesting to see where this exercise takes you.

Mourning autumnthere are rarely extremes in the weather here but that, I realize, has resulted in the lack of brilliance the heavy downpours are missed by thirsty roots and the early season chill is sadly missing …both sorely needed for my inspiration, the breathtaking colors of autumn reduced to a breath exhaled a mere few weeks it seems… as summer extends its hold long after backpacks are filled for the first time in months… suddenly and as an afterthought a cooler breeze comes with a burst of color and as a burst expands and then contracts… a strong gust strips away much of autumn just a week ago a maple’s red leaves fell as in a pause, but she was full… today, darkened remnants lie shriveled and blood red carpeting and choking the lawn scrawling limbs, bare outstretched, gray and cold almost beseeching much too soon… it was too soon another strong wind sends dried leaves scampering down the black street eerily running and easily giving up where can one go if winter is just around the corner Written for the Freewriting Exercise © 2007 SilentDream (All rights reserved)

I wanted to love you
and there are times when I feel like I have to apologize for letting it all come rushing out
the possibility and hopes overwhelm you
but I know that I would have held you the way you were meant to be held
And there are times when I know that you feel it but you shrink back like possibility scares you
I wouldn't hurt you
You're pulling away from all that we could be and that scares me, leaves me hollow
shattered
what is it about me what is it about us...

6/9/10 ENG 121 ~ Freewrite about an annoyance Ignore grammar, punctuation, flow, etc. Just write.
I guess one of the things that annoys me is affected by if I'm already in a bad place. Then, I find that I'm super sensitive about how people interact with each other. On a good day, it's hard enough to not be affected by a condescending attitude. But on a bad day, I definitely feel my face getting hot. It tends to be over something so small that the person has chosen to blow out of proportion. It's also so disrespectful and unnecessary. There are better ways to address concerns or things that are upsetting than to take away another's dignity. Oftentimes, the one who is being condescending is very aware of the audience they may have and instead of toning it down, this fuels them. It reminds me of a saying or quote.. something.. that explains that sometimes a person tears others down to build themselves up. When this thought comes to mind during a situation, I can switch from my own building rage to pity. It really is a shame that a person can only build themselves up by tearing at others. There are times that I make it obvious that what I'm feeling is pity instead of whatever expressions they were looking for out of their little audience... but that's a little meanness on My part. I get a kick out of not giving in to another's nonsense and letting them know that I'm onto them. It's a struggle to be able to do that for someone like me because I already naturally hold in so much. But if I realize someone is being ridiculous, I'm glad that I can not be dragged down into the dregs with them.
woooosaaa...... how about That for some freewriting? lol

I read something interesting about freewriting. If you are a fast typer and prefer to use the computer instead of pen and paper for this exercise, try turning off your monitor. That way you are not focused on your words, if youre saying it "right", grammar, etc.
